701 - Data Repository Boot Camp Basics
Welcome to DR boot camp! We’ve got two sessions designed to teach you the ins and outs of reporting from MEDITECH Data Repository: DR Boot Camp Basics, and Advanced DR Boot Camp.
In DR Boot Camp Basics, we’ll start with an overview of what DR is and how it fits into the MEDITECH systems picture. Then we’ll demonstrate different ways to find the specific data you need from DR, so you can write your reports more quickly and efficiently, instead of constantly browsing table data. We’ll dive into some basic T-SQL concepts that every report writer needs to know, including primary keys, indexing in SQL Server, writing more efficient table joins, reviewing execution plans and how to use both T-SQL and user-defined functions to improve your coding technique.

This is a beginning to intermediate technical T-SQL class and applies to all MEDITECH platforms from MAGIC to Expanse.

Jamie Gerardo is Vice President of Acmeware’s Professional Services group and has been a presenter at MUSE going back to her days at Hays Medical Center. While at Hays, she helped develop the DR into an integral part of daily operations. Jamie has a passion for databases and enjoys sharing information and teaching others. She has been involved with MEDITECH healthcare for the past 15 years, with a concentration on the Data Repository environment since 2005. She studied Business Administration in Management at Texas State University. Jamie is a Microsoft certified Technical Specialist in Business Intelligence.
Before joining Acmeware in 2015, Taylor Solari worked as a Systems Analyst at Licking Memorial Health System (a MEDITECH MAGIC site), where he supported DR and trained new staff on utilizing their electronic medical records software. Taylor also worked as a Senior DR Application Specialist at MEDITECH, including both customer and new staff training. Taylor lives outside Columbus, OH.
702 - The Alphabet Soup of Clinical Quality Measure Reporting and Reimbursement
CMS is transitioning to what they call "a new and more responsive regulatory framework" for quality reporting and reimbursement. We have already started experiencing the transformation of fee for service into value-based care models driven by the Value-Based Purchasing (VBP), Quality Payment Program (QPP), MACRA, Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and Alternative Payment Models (APM). Healthcare organizations are no longer motivated by implementing and meeting Meaningful Use, but instead driven by value-based care and risk-based payment models that focus on quality outcomes for reimbursements.
In this education session we will review:
- How CMS are aligning CQMs to reduce the reporting burden for healthcare organizations and providers.
- The following CMS reporting programs and how they interact with each other: Value-Based Purchasing (VBP), Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA), Merit-based Incentive Payments (MIPS), Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR), The Joint Commission (ORYX), Outpatient Quality Reporting (OQR), and Alternative Payment Models (APM).
- How the Hospital and Provider reimbursement models will change in 2019 and going forward.
- Compare and contrast the requirements for quality measure reporting and identify strategies to ensure compliance.
- The potential impact to hospital reimbursement of current and proposed programs that will affect quality reporting for hospitals and providers.
- How to improve efficiency and quality by aligning measures across initiatives.
- Where to find current information (and breaking news) on each of these Quality Initiatives.
In the past, organizations participating in quality reporting involved abstractors sifting through a small sample set of unstructured data in paper charts to then manually convert their findings to discrete reportable data. This approach is time consuming and requires extensive amount of resources from both IT and Quality staff. Aligning quality initiatives can improve efficiencies and processes, and contribute to population health management efforts, both locally and nationally.
At the conclusion of this presentation, attendees will be able to apply what they’ve learned about aligning Clinical Quality Measures across initiatives specific to their organization to improve reimbursements, reduce their reporting burden, increase efficiencies, and realize the benefits of Population Health Management.

Alexis Donnaruma, MPH, is the Quality Reporting and Product Manager at Acmeware. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Community Health from Tufts University and her Master of Public Health with a concentration in Health Services Management and Policy from Tufts University School of Medicine. At Acmeware she continuously reviews quality reporting regulatory updates to contribute to the development of Acmeware’s quality reporting and analysis application. She also educates clients about reporting requirements and manages eCQM submissions for Acmeware clients. Prior to her time at Acmeware, she worked at Partners Healthcare, reviewing quality reporting regulatory updates to educate Partner’s hospitals on the latest reporting requirements, and analyzed hospital data to determine individual and system-wide performance on quality measures.
The Director of Sales and Marketing, Greg D’Abate started with Acmeware in 2013 as a Marketing Consultant and promoted to Marketing Manager in 2015. Currently the Director of Sales and Marketing, Greg is responsible for the branding, lead generation and new revenue generation for Acmeware. Prior to Acmeware, he spent three years working for a marketing agency in Atlanta, GA developing its digital marketing strategy and implementation. The first 22 years of Greg’s professional career were sales and marketing roles within the mortgage industry. Greg holds a bachelor’s degree with a double major in Economics and Political Science from Fairfield University.
Jodi Frei, PT, MSMIIT, Director of Quality, Northwestern Medical Center, has been a practicing Physical Therapist since 1990, holding leadership roles since 1991, with a focus on clinical outcomes. In 2010, she became Manager of Organizational Informatics, leading Northwestern in MEDITECH implementation and optimization. Having the prerequisite knowledge of CMS Quality Strategy and understanding of MEDITECH functionality enabled her eventual transition to Director of Quality at Northwestern. Most recently, she was project manager for Northwestern’s MEDITECH Expanse go-LIVE. Jodi supports health care reform efforts within her organization, and has presented on related topics at national MEDITECH and HIMSS events. She holds a Master’s Degree in Innovation and Information Technology.
